The event took place at the Informatics Forum.

It was attended by staff, bursars and donors.

Crucial financial support

Bursar Robert Foster (pictured left) told guests that the bursary enables its recipients to experience student life to the full.

Foster is studying Biological Sciences.

Rebecca Hotchen (pictured right), an English Language student, also spoke at the event.

She explained that the provision of financial support was an important factor in her decision to attend the University of Edinburgh.

Applications on the up

This year, the University granted 175 new undergraduate bursaries, as well as 460 renewals.

It also awarded 52 accommodation bursaries to first-year undergraduates.

These bursaries are worth £1,000 each.

In total, the University awarded undergraduate bursaries worth £775,000 for this academic session.

The number of undergraduate bursary applications also rose by 46 per cent.

The bursary offers students of low financial means the ability to come to the University of Edinburgh, in this beautiful but relatively expensive city, and experience student life to the full. Not just studying but taking part in societies and sport.
