Farhat Din has been awarded the Hunter Doig Medal by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh: December 2015

Farhat Din has been awarded the Hunter Doig Medal by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Miss Din, a colorectal surgeon at the Western General Hospital, received the prestigious award in recognition of her contributions to excellence in surgery.

She completed her medical degrees at St Andrews and Manchester University prior to coming to Edinburgh to undertake surgical training.

Cancer research

Miss Din has for a long time been a passionate researcher and was awarded a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist fellowship in 2010.

She integrates her clinical practice with her translational research programme at the University, investigating the effects of energy and metabolism signaling in colorectal cancer.

She is also an enthusiastic tutor and mentor for undergraduates and surgical trainees.

It is absolutely fantastic to be recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as having made a contribution to surgery, science and training at this early stage in my career.
