Updates and information for staff on industrial action relating to UCU’s dispute concerning not ruling out compulsory redundancies

University and College Union Edinburgh (UCUE) has secured a mandate for industrial action in a ballot that closed on 20 May 2025. The mandate is for both strike action and action short of a strike, regarding the University not ruling out compulsory redundancies.

Please refer to the following all staff communication.

Strike Action June and September 2025

UCU members have voted to take strike action on the following dates:

  • Friday 20 June 2025 (Undergraduate Open Day)
  • 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 September 2025 (Welcome Week)

The University will enact contingency plans to mitigate disruption to the delivery of learning and teaching, and student experience whilst maintaining academic standards.

A dedicated staff Industrial Action SharePoint site containing useful information and the online declaration form is available to support staff.

Information for Staff

If you choose to participate in the industrial action, either by taking strike action, or by choosing not to cross the picket line, you will be required to complete and submit an online declaration form, confirming your participation.
