Data from the International Stroke Trial-1 (IST-1) were made publicly available on Edinburgh DataShare some years ago. They have now been accessed 10,131 times - earning an accolade for the most viewed/downloaded data on this platform.
The high level of interest is testament to the hard work (and public funds ) invested to recruit, randomise and follow-up 19,435 patients with acute stroke from 37 countries.
This has created a resource for the ‘public good’ that continues to be of value 20 years after the trial was completed, and underlines the potential benefits of data sharing.
