Performance Facilities

The University of Edinburgh's performance sport programmes offer a wide range of facilities for performance athletes, with state-of-the art equipment and dedicated training times to help elite athletes reach their full potential.

Performance spaces for performance athletes 

 

The performance gym operates a timetabled programme of sessions, for performance athletes, supervised by our dedicated strength and conditioning coaches. A new dedicated performance physio space has also been created within the gym alongside new athlete screening and performance testing equipment including a Vald Force Frame, Force Plate, and Nord Board.

The gym features an array of strength and conditioning equipment:

  • Six Eleiko Prestera Full Racks
  • An Eleiko Prestro Half Rack and a Prestro Double Rack
  • Integrated lifting platforms
  • A free standing Eleiko XF Rig and accessories
  • 2 Eleiko Bench Pulls
  • 3 full sets of Eleiko Evo Dumbbells
  • Slam Wall
  • WATT Bikes

Accessibility

The Performance Gym is accessible via a lift. 

 

Located only two and a half miles from the city centre and incorporating the National Hockey Academy, the 27 acre Peffermill site offers a hugely impressive array of training and competition facilities which is host to a number of our performance programmes.

Facilities include:

  • 2 floodlit water-based artificial pitches (internationally accredited)
  • 3G pitches for sports such as rugby, football and Lacrosse 
  • 9 five-a-side pitches (3G surface)
  • 10 grass pitches
  • 2 cricket squares
  • A 100 metre synthetic training track and outdoor gym
  • Changing and shower facilities
  • Team meeting rooms

 

Performance athletes have access to the University's 25-metre six-lane swimming pool on the third floor of the St. Leonard's Land building on Holyrood Road at selected times.
