Alan Anderson is one of the UK’s most successful water polo players. He gained more than 200 caps for Scotland and Great Britain and represented GB at four European Championships - Strasbourg 1987, Athens 1989, Bonn 1991 and Sheffield 1993.

At club level, he won ten Scottish Cups, eight Scottish League titles, four GB National League titles, and six GB Championships, and was honoured by Scottish Swimming with the prestigious Nancy Riach Memorial Medal in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the sport.

While at University, Alan gained a Blue for water polo in 1984/85 and a Half-Blue for swimming in 1986/87. That same year (1986/87), he won the Vancouver Quaich for the best athletic performance by a male student as well as being selected to represent British Universities at the 14th Summer Universiade in Zagreb.

He remains very heavily involved in water polo as both coach and ambassador, leading Portobello to become the first Scottish club to win the British Championships in 2012 and providing coaching support to both the University’s water polo club and the Scottish national team.

He continues as a key ambassador for the sport and commentates and presents at major events, including the 2012 London Olympics.
