How the various University EDI groups and committees work together.

To help you navigate the committee system we have prepared a diagram that gives you a flavour of our extensive network of EDI committees. 

Why do we need so many?

The EDI remit is very broad, so we have found it works well to have specialist committees that focus on individual topics. This way the topic is not “diluted” or overlooked, which can happen in meetings covering multiple issues.   

What is the role of the College EDI committee?

It is central governing body responsible for governance and EDI strategy in the College of Science and Engineering. The committee operates in a collaborative and democratic manner through consultation with school EDI leads, student and staff representatives. An important part of the job is to collate and analyse EDI data from across the college. To assist this work we are generating an EDI data repository that can be accessed through the University’s Power BI suite.

Information flow into and out of College

To allow us keep up to date with the broader issues, the University-level committees (shown in blue) regularly report to the CSE EDI committee. Further, CSE EDI committee members sit on a range of cross-university committees, which aids information flow from our College. Prof Halliday represents the College on the senior University EDIC committee, which reviews University-wide practices, data and reports prepared by EDMARC. Topics for concern or EDI recommendations are presented to Senate, for discussion and/or approval.
