The Unit offers a number of services to employees and represents the University to outside organisations
Training
The FSU provide a number of services to employees and represent the University to external organisations. Courses can be arranged to suit the needs of building occupiers including Fire Awareness, Fire Stewards and Extinguisher Training.
Fire Equipment Maintenance
The FSU undertakes periodic inspections and maintenance of the Universities fire equipment in all University properties.
They also arrange for external consultants to undertake the 5/10 year inspections. If staff notice that a fire extinguisher has been used or appears faulty, this should be reported via EBIS.
Fire Signage
All of the Universities Fire Action Notices and escape route signage are provides by the FSU. If staff notice that any notices need replacing, this should be reported via EBIS.
Fire Vests
Fire Vests for Fire Stewards can be purchased from the Fire Safety Unit at a cost of £15, please email Caroline Smith.
New Builds/Refurbishments
As the University Estates grows, new buildings or major refurbished buildings will require new fire equipment provision. The FSU undertakes surveys in these buildings and provides any fire fighting equipment required.
Fire Drills
The FSU organise the fire drill programme for University buildings on an annual basis.
Fire Risk Assessment
The FSU organise the fire risk inspections for all University Buildings.
