Introduction to Biosafety
This session covers the basic principles of containment and working safely when handling biological materials.
Safety Requirements for Genetic Modification Work
This session covers the stringent regulatory requirements for work involving genetic modification.
Disposal of Biological Waste
This session covers the regulatory and University requirements for dealing with wastes arising from biological, medical and veterinary facilities.
Transport of Biological Materials
This session will cover how biological materials must be classified, packaged and labelled for transport.
Advanced training on materials transport
The Health and Safety Department arranges a specialist external trainer to provide a one-day course in the University on the transport of infectious substances.
Biosafety Practitioner (Level 1) Foundation
This training is available to people interested in safety within a biological environment.
ISTR have accredited the course materials used by the BTI. Once attendees have completed all of the units provided in this 5 day course (and passed the assessment), they can become registered by ISTR as Level 1 Practitioners if they have two years' relevant experience.
