It's all about exploring and understanding.
We investigate what shapes our world and the environments in which we live, in order to understand the interactions between Earth's geology, atmosphere, oceans, biosphere and human responses and roles. Our interdisciplinary research and teaching is built on strong core disciplines including ecology, geography, geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography and environmental sciences.
Our staff are involved in many different research centres and project consortia, involving universities and other institutions around the globe.
With over 400 academics, researchers and research students, we are the largest grouping of geoscientists in the UK, spread over 3 research institutes.
