Thesis title: The influence of contemporary educational policy on the ability of head teachers to pursue their own professional interests and desires in Scotland

Background

I am a part-time PhD student alongside my role as a Lecturer in Educational Leadership here at Moray House.

Prior to working at the university, I was a primary school head teacher and also worked at national level as an Attainment Advisor with Education Scotland.

I am interested in how educational policy in Scotland influences the professional learning and development of head teachers.

• How is contemporary Scottish educational policy influencing head teachers’ engagement in professional learning? • What space exists for Scottish head teachers to direct their own professional learning and development? • How does policy enable or limit the professional growth and development of Scottish head teachers?
