Human cognitive neuroscience seminar

Speakers:  Carrie Figdor (University of Iowa)

Topic: Event Perception: A Philosophically-Informed Psychological and Neuroscientific Account

Abstract: Perception of events is as basic to cognition and action as perception of objects. These differ fundamentally in the role of temporal features built into events and perceptions of events. I will introduce the problem of understanding perception of duration, and outline an account of experiences of duration based in psychological theory (Event Segmentation Theory, e.g. Zacks et al. 2007) and neuroscience (the stopwatch or interval timing mechanisms, e.g. Buhusi and Meck 2005).
