Honorary Professor: Suzanne L Dickson

Suzanne L Dickson has been made an Honorary Professor in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine

Suzanne Dickson

She is Professor of Neuroendocrinology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Professor Dickson graduated in pharmacology from Edinburgh and gained her PhD in neuroendocrinology from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Senior Lecturer in physiology before taking up her current post.

Her current research focuses on the role of the endocrine gut-brain axis in appetite control. This work builds on almost 20 years of research exploring the central actions of ghrelin and, before its discovery, the growth hormone secretagogues.

Her recent work has shown that ghrelin mimetics target brain reward pathways involved in feeding control.

Professor Dickson has coordinated three European Union large integrated projects, one of which, NeuroFAST, currently involves 13 European research groups, addressing the integrated neurobiology of food intake, reward and stress.

She is married to Professor John-Olov Jansson, who also works at the University of Gothenburg in obesity research, and they have two children. Her hobbies include cycling and singing.
