Honorary Professorial Fellow: Marcelo Cintra

Marcelo Cintra has been made an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the College of Science & Engineering.

Dr Cintra is a research scientist at Intel Corporation, which he joined in 2011.

He works with various academic and industrial partners to develop high-performance computing platforms, including both hardware and system software.

He obtained his PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001, and has an MSc in computer engineering and BSc in electrical engineering from the University of Sao Paulo.

Before joining Intel, he was a Professor of Computer Science in Edinburgh’s School of Informatics.

Dr Cintra’s research interests lie in the general areas of computer architecture, parallel and high-performance computing, and optimising compilers.

He has published in major journals and conferences in these areas and holds a patent from the US Patent Office.

He is Associate Editor of the ‘Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing’ and has served on numerous programme committees for international conferences and symposia. He is a member of the European Network of Excellence in High Performance Embedded Architectures and Compilers.

Dr Cintra is a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery and of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
