Personal Chair: Stephanie O'Donohoe

Stephanie O'Donohoe has been made Personal Chair in Advertising and Consumer Culture.

She studied at the College of Marketing and Design (now Dublin Institute of Technology, Faculty of Business) and obtained a first-class BSc (Management) degree from Trinity College, Dublin.

She worked in the Irish whiskey industry prior to joining the University of Edinburgh as a Lecturer in Marketing in 1987.

At Edinburgh, she undertook a part-time PhD on young adults’ advertising experiences.

She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1998 and Reader in 2007.

Professor O’Donohoe draws on different disciplines within humanities and social sciences to explore the working lives of advertising creatives and consumption during times of transition.

She is particularly interested in consumption meanings and experiences among young adults, first-time mothers, and bereaved people.

She has worked with many international scholars and supervised a range of PhD students in the areas of advertising and consumer research.

Her work has been published in leading journals and presented at international, interdisciplinary conferences.

She is Book Review Editor for the International Journal of Advertising, and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Marketing Management, Marketing Theory, Young Consumers, and Consumption, Markets and Culture.
