Chair in International Health and Molecular Medicine: Igor Rudan
Professor Rudan graduated from the University of Zagreb’s Medical School in Croatia in 1995.
Professor Igor Rudan has been made Chair in International Health and Molecular Medicine in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine.
He obtained a Masters Degree in Anthropology at the University of Zagreb and a further Masters Degree, in Public Health, at the University of Pavia in Italy.
He was awarded his DSc/PhD degrees in Public Health at the University of Zagreb in 1998, and in Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh in 2005.
He has published more than 250 research papers and books, and has been awarded 15 national and international awards.
He has led 23 research grants totalling more than £20million.
Professor Rudan serves as a consultant for a range of organisations and companies, including the World Health Organisation, the Department for International Development, and GlaxoSmithKline.
His discovery that SLC2A9 gene causes gout disease was declared the third most significant contribution of Croatian scientists to global scientific heritage by the leading Croatian magazine The Globe.
He is a citizen of both the UK and Croatia.
He is married with two children.
