Associate Chaplain: Ali Newell

Reverend Alison Newell has been appointed Associate Chaplain at the University of Edinburgh.

Reverend Newell is a Church of Scotland minister and a trained counseller.

Previously, Reverend Newell was Chaplain at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.

She returned to Scotland and was co-warden at Iona Abbey from 1988-1992.

She was then appointed Prison Chaplain at Edinburgh Prison.

She later worked in social responsibility for the Anglican diocese of Portsmouth.

Reverend Newell returned to Scotland to be the Director of the Ecumenical Spirituality Programme for Scottish Churches Open College.

For the past 10 years she has been working in the field of spirituality and teaching.

This work has included offering spiritual accompaniment at the Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Glasgow and leading retreats on Iona and at Casa del Sol in New Mexico.
