Archaeologist joins European academy

Professor Ian Ralston has been elected as a member of the prestigious Academia Europaea.

Professor Ralston, of the School of History, Classics & Archaeology, has accepted an invitation to join the academy, which currently has around 4,000 members, including 72 Nobel Laureates.

Academic excellence

The key criterion for election to the Academia is ‘sustained academic excellence in the candidate’s field’. Membership is, therefore, highly competitive and follows a rigorous peer review selection process.

Formed in 1988, the Academia Europaea is a pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters. Its membership of eminent scholars is drawn from all the countries of Europe, and all disciplines, nationalities and geographical locations.
