National employer award for IAD

The Operations Team at the University's Institute for Academic Development (IAD) has been named National On-Campus Student Employer of The Year.

The award was made by the National Association of Student Employment Services at a ceremony in Liverpool.

The IAD and its staff were nominated by PhD student Laura Kandle, who has been working at the IAD as an events administrator. She praised the IAD for the support and flexibility they gave her while studying and working.

Varied roles

The IAD is committed to offering employment opportunities to students. Around 10 to 15 students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, take paid, part-time posts at the IAD each year. Their varying roles currently include designing promotional materials and analysing data for student assessment systems.

The IAD also participates in the Employ.ed programme run by the Careers Service, offering internships to both undergraduate and PhD students.

The impact that students have on our business is excellent, and we get the added benefit of the ‘critical friend’ students’ view of what we do.
