MRC Human Genetics Unit researchers Jana Travnickova (Patton group) and Lana Talmane (Taylor group) won first and second poster prizes at the 5th annual Genomic Medicine 2018 Edinburgh  conference  on 18th & 19th April at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Edinburgh.  The meeting focused on NGS and related genomic technologies to look at rare and common human disease. Jana Travnickova presented her work on developing better zebrafish reporter systems to understand the role of the stem cell niche in melanoma regression  and Lana Talmane presented work on how binding of protein to DNA can influence patterns of DNA mutation.

Professor Tim Aitman updated the meeting on progress with the Scottish Genomes Partnership, and HGU Professors Caroline Hayward and Martin Taylor also presented their work at the meeting, which was co-organised by Dr Shona Kerr at MRC HGU. Participants at the meeting discussed challenges facing the field, including how to incorporate, interpret and pay for, next generation sequencing technologies within the NHS.
