University of Edinburgh and Nuvectis Pharma win Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Awards 2024

Congratulations to Edinburgh Cancer Researchers Neil Carragher, Asier Unciti-Broceta, Margaret Frame, Val Brunton and Stefan Symeonides, Maria Lopalco from Edinburgh Innovations and our partners at Nuvectis Pharma for being winners at the Cancer Research Horizons Innovation and Entrepreneurship Awards. Cancer Research Horizons is the innovation engine of the Cancer Research UK, world's largest charitable funder of cancer research, and its Innovation and Entrepreneurship Awards are designed to empower innovation and recognise trailblazers in oncology.

The team were successful in the Further, Faster, Together (Industry-Academia collaboration) category which celebrates the promotion of innovation in oncology through the working together of industry and academia, including but not limited to partnerships, licenses and knowledge exchange. The award recognises outstanding examples of teamwork with clear evidence of knowledge transfer between the different sectors and organisations, and demonstrates how value and impact is maximised through working in partnership and collaboration.

The University of Edinburgh and Nuvectis Pharma have been distinguished for their collaborative work on NXP900 - a novel first-in-class drug with a new mechanism of action, targeting SRC and YES1 kinases. The drug was discovered by the Edinburgh Cancer Researchers at the Institute of Genetic and Cancer. They have partnered with Nuvectis Pharma to speed up translation of their discoveries for patient benefit and clinical trials are now underway in patients with advanced solid tumours.
