Teaching with Collections Regulations
Regulations are for staff delivering teaching with collections in Heritage Collections spaces.
Before the Seminar
- Please provide students with clear information about the location of their seminar.
- Please let us know of any additional accessibility requirements for you or your students. Please do not share personal information, just the facilities that are required.
- Provide students with a list of the collection items they will be seeing / listening to, included identifiers / shelfmarks / acquisition numbers.
- You must attend an in-person handling session with a member of the Conservation & Collections Management team. This will be arranged with you directly by Heritage Collections staff.
During the Seminar

You are responsible for ensuring students do not take any of the following items in to the seminar:
- Food and drink, including chewing gum (water bottles may be left outside the seminar room)
- Pens
- Coats
- Bags
- Lockers are available for students and teaching staff to use.
- Students are welcome to take laptops / tablets / smartphone, pencils and notebooks into the Search Room.
- You are responsible for the security of collections during the seminar. This includes:
- Adequate supervision of all handing of collection items by students.
- Ensuring collections items are never left unattended during the seminar, or immediately afterwards.
- Asking a student to inform Heritage Collections staff when the seminar is finished so items can be collected and returned to stores.
- If you would prefer to have a member of Heritage Collections staff supervise the handling of collections in the seminar, please let us know.

As such, in person or during any online communications or consultations we do not tolerate behaviour that is disrespectful to our staff or learners or that excludes, intimidates, or causes discomfort to others.

All users are expected to be abide by the University's health and safety procedures. These include following instructions from staff and informational signage. Any user who intentionally disregards these instructions will have their visit or online session suspended and will be asked to leave.
