The School of History, Classics and Archaeology is delighted to announce the inaugural lecture by Professor François Lissarrague as Leventis Visiting Professor. (Published 22 September 2017)

We extend a warm welcome to Professor François Lissarrague, Emeritus Director of Studies at The School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (Paris), as Leventis Visiting Professor. within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

Professor Lissarrague will deliver his inaugral lecture 'On the Edinburgh painter: Style, stories and space' on 27 September 2017. In his lecture, Professor Lissarrague will use the so called Edinburgh painter as a starting point to reflect about three major aspects. First the importance of style and workshop traditions; second the construction of space, and the relation between the shape of the vase and the structure of the image on it; third on the narrative strategies developed by vase painters.

The inaugural lecture will be followed by a drinks reception. Tickets are free and can be registered for at the relevant event page below. 

The School will also host the tenth biennial Leventis conference in November on the subject of 'Images at the cross-roads: Meanings, media, methods'.
