Una Europa

Una Europa is a unique alliance of 11 of Europe’s top universities working together to create a truly European inter-university environment where outstanding research is continuously linked to transnational and innovative critical thinking.

What is Una Europa?

In response to the European Commission’s European University Initiative, eleven leading European research universities came together in 2019 to create a unique alliance – Una Europa. Collectively, its member universities educate over 500,000 students and count almost 100,000 university staff across its universities, with digital learners numbering in the millions. Una Europa aims to draw on our collective strengths to create a truly inter-university environment, a University of the Future.

Academics and researchers from across the University of Edinburgh work with their peers at Una Europa universities on new educational programmes, including MOOCs, micro-credentials, and joint undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the six interdisciplinary areas of:

  • Europe and the World
  • One Health
  • Sustainability
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Data Science & AI
  • Future Materials

Research collaboration is supported, and collaborative grant applications from member universities are encouraged.

The University of Edinburgh led on the Una.Resin project, supported by Horizon 2020 funding, available exclusively to European University Alliances - producing a joint research and innovation strategy.

Edinburgh students benefit from new, short-term, virtual and blended student mobility opportunities created across the alliance.

Membership with the Una Europa alliance creates unique opportunities for both students and staff to study, collaborate and research with some of the most impressive universities in Europe. Contact the Europe Regional team for more information.

Una Europa and Edinburgh

In 2019, the European Commission funded the  first European University Alliances. The University of Edinburgh was one of only three UK Universities and the only Scottish University in a funded alliance.
