Decolonising the Curriculum in Higher Education virtual speaker series

Our Decolonising the Curriculum in Higher Education virtual speaker series hosted seven talks January to June 2021. Organised and chaired by Dr Andrea English, the events saw over 500 attendees from Indonesia, Canada, India, Philippines, North America, Mexico and the UK, to name just a few places.

The expert speakers from all over the world offered many fruitful insights into this global-reaching topic that is encouraging students and teachers alike to rethink what we teach and how we teach it. Diverse understandings of the term ‘decolonisation’ and practical tips for where our audience might begin were taken from the talks while the emphasis lay on the critical importance of working towards a decolonised curriculum and pedagogy. This is not something that can happen overnight, the speakers all acknowledged, but is, as Dr Adebisi said, important ‘for the sake of the future of humanity’ not just of higher education.

All talks will soon be available on our website and a special journal issue by Drs Ruth Heilbronn and Andrea English will follow.
