Patient/public involvement & engagement

Our patient and public involvement and engagement groups

Several members of the CVRG work with Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) groups to co-design their research.

We have PPIE groups within the CVRG:

RUSH Patient reference group

Translational Neurosurgery patient reference groups

Small Vessels Disease

We have a lay group for SVD attached to the R4VaD project – this is 7-8 people including patients and those affected by stroke and/or dementia.  We consult them regularly on matters arising from the R4 VaD project and also the suitability of future projects and accepatibily of proposals.  Communication is via email and letter, we do not meet regularly as a group.   Please contact Dr Fergus Doubal for further information.

Edinburgh SVD patient reference group

This group has been convened by the Edinburgh SVD research group and meets to provide regular input and advice cocnerning current and proposed SVD research projects.  Please contact Dr Fergus Doubal for further information.

R4VaD lay reference group

This group has a wider remit and has been formed by members provided by the Stroke Association, Alzheimer's society and others affected by stroke.  The group regularly comments on the design and running of the BHF/AS/TSA funded R4VaD project as well as providing advice regarding the suitability of newer stroke related research proposals.  Please contact Dr Fergus Doubal for further information.

Neurosurgery Patient Rference Group

We provide a forum for clinician scientists and laboratory academics to angage with patients and their relatives.

We work with the Brain Tumour Charity and local brain tumour support organisations to discuss research objective and design.   Please contact Mr Paul Brennan for further information.
