Mental Health Data Science
This data science and health informatics research uses cohorts to better understand mental illnesses.
Edinburgh is at the forefront of using data science and health informatics approaches to better understand mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
This work is strongly interdisciplinary and involves collaboration across psychiatry, psychology, medical informatics, computing science, genomics and social sciences.
We seek to understand the biological, psychological, social, and environmental impact on mental health and wellbeing by making use of infrastructure and cohorts from Scotland, the UK and internationally, including:
- electronic Data Research and Innovation Service (eDRIS)
- UK Biobank
- Generation Scotland
- Lothian Birth Cohorts of 1921 and 1936
- Aberdeen Children of the 1950s
- The Bipolar Family Study
- Theirworld Edinburgh Birth Cohort
