Impact case studies

Recent achievements and their impact.

Translation of scientific discoveries into diverse forms of impact beyond academia frequently follows intricate and unpredictable paths. To a large degree this reflects unpredictable nature of science itself. These “impact case studies” not only exemplify the breadth and intensity of research activities performed in the Centre, but also illustrate complexity and collaborative nature of the “pathways to impact”. Many different open minded people with a positive attitude and broad spectrum of skills and expertise are often necessary to go all the way from the lab to the market or from an initial clinical study to a new more effective treatment available to all. We believe that we have a proper blend in Edinburgh (with many valuable collaborators around the world).

Example impact case studies:

“Detailed analysis of trial of lapatinib in combination with capecitabine in advanced, HER2/+ breast cancer leads to marketing authorisation worldwide”

“Evidence-based identification and cost-effective treatment of depression in cancer patients”

“Preventing colorectal cancer in Lynch syndrome and familial MUTYH associated polyposis”

“BRCA1/2-deficient ovarian cancer, identification of a unique clinical phenotype and development of individualised therapy”
