Senate is the University’s supreme academic body, and its role includes overseeing the learning, teaching, and discipline of the University whilst helping to promote our research.
All eligible staff from the University's academic and research community who have been in post from 31 January 2025 are invited to stand for Senate. This year, there are 93 academic staff positions available across all three Colleges, with 38 positions available in the non-professorial category, presenting an excellent opportunity to enhance the representativeness of the Senate body.
Senate should reflect the diversity of our academic disciplines and our academic staff community. The University is committed to improving the diversity of key University committees and to ensuring that Senate provides an inclusive environment for contributions from all staff.
We are seeking to enhance representation from academic and research staff at all career stages, including those who are early career, including postdoctoral fellows, and postgraduate tutors and demonstrators. To recognise the importance of representation from staff who hold early career positions, nine positions within the non-professorial category are to be prioritised for staff who hold an early career academic position, with three of these positions available for election in 2025.
Senate positions are open to self-nomination. Nominations are invited from all academic staff, including staff who hold a fixed-term contract that is expected to conclude prior to a potential term on Senate. Any staff who are considering applying and who hold a fixed-term position are encouraged to contact Senate Support for further information:
You can nominate yourself up to 12 noon on Wednesday 26 March using the Senate nomination form. Please ensure you are logged into MyEd to enable you to complete the form:
