Four new working groups have been established to support the University’s LGBT+ Sub-Committee’s work and help the implementation of a new organisation-wide action plan.
The new working groups are:
Access and facilities: contributing to the ongoing efforts to develop more inclusive and accessible facilities across the University estate and raise awareness of the importance of having these.
Culture and voice: responsible for capturing the experiences of LGBTQ+ people within the University community and the actions and recommendations arising from the sub-committee’s work, for reporting across Equality, Diversity and Inclusion governance structures
Communications and storytelling: helping to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ staff and student activities and personal experiences, both amongst key groups and across the wider University community.
Staff and student data and systems: looking at opportunities to adapt and develop data processes, for example, ensuring they are inclusive of name, gender identity and pronoun options.
Our new action plan and establishing these working groups gives us a great opportunity to support the University to celebrate the many valuable contributions made by LGBTQ+ staff and students, to address inequalities and challenges experienced by our community, and to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion within University systems and cultures.
The work of our Sub-Committee provides a forum for discussions and consultation on key issues, in pursuit of challenging misconceptions and discrimination, and advocating for dignity and respect for LGBTQ+ staff and students, that allows them to feel supported to thrive in a more inclusive University community.
