Research Cultures Delivery Plan Round Table Discussion- Research Excellence Framework and the assessment of people and culture

As a part of good research practice week, we will be reflecting on the Research Cultures Delivery Plan and we invite you to join us for a 90-minute round table discussion centred around the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the assessment of people and culture.

The upcoming REF will allocate 25% of the overall scoring to the evaluation of research pertaining to people, culture and the research environment. It is not yet clear how this will be evaluated, and the role (if any) of metrics of this evaluation. This session will start with a description of those parts of the Research Cultures Delivery Plan which touch on issues related to people and culture.

We will then hear from Professor James Wilsdon from UCL, who chaired the independent review on the role of metrics in research assessment and management. He will share insights from their report, 'The Metric Tide,' which outlined 20 specific recommendations for further actions. Together, we'll explore the challenges encountered in implementing these changes and identify the remaining barriers that need to be overcome.

We will also be joined by Helen Cross, Director of Research and Innovation, Scottish Funding Council.

This dynamic round table promises a thought-provoking exploration of how people and culture, and the REF, can be considered in the Research Cultures Action Plan. Be part of this essential conversation shaping the future of research culture at the University. Your perspective matters.

Speakers:

Professor James Wilsdon from UCL

Helen Cross, Director of Research and Innovation, Scottish Funding Council
