DDoS Attack 10th September 2018

A statement from the Chief Information Officer about the cyber attack on 10 September

Dear colleague,

Yesterday morning you will have noticed that our online services including our wireless services, websites and many student services were disrupted for several hours. This has been confirmed by our internet service provider Jisc as a cyber attack on our network and against other UK Universities.

I apologise for the disruption to this service, particularly during the busy Welcome Week period. I realise how frustrating this must have been.

These attacks are very rare. The University takes cyber security very seriously and has rigid measures in place to protect our systems and data. Our defences reacted quickly and no data has been compromised.

We will continue to work with Jisc, the National Cyber Crime Bureau and with other Universities to prevent these network attacks in future.

You can find out more about our Information Security measures on our website.
