Established in 1993, The Association for Learning Technology is the UK's leading membership organisation in the learning technology field.

The University of Edinburgh is an organisational member of the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) which means that  anyone who works here is eligible to join free of charge as an associate member.

Some opportunities to consider:

  • Once you join ALT, you will automatically be added to two mailing lists: ALT-Announce which is used solely by ALT to send out news, and ALT-Members which is a mailing list that can be replied to and can be used for all manner of discussion (submit news, events, job vacancies, etc. to  the ALT-ANNOUCE List here: https://www.alt.ac.uk/news/alt-news-digest)
  • Follow @A_L_T or the #ALTC hashtag on Twitter. 
  • Read and contribute to the #altc blog

  • Attend ALT events at discounted fees, including the Annual Conference and where you are entitled to vote at the Annual General Meeting.  ALT runs both face-to-face and online events. 

  • Get involved with our regional members group ALT Scotland or in any of the  special interest groups (SIGs).

  • Take part in ALT’s governance (Central Executive, Further Education and Cross-Sector Engagement, Communications and Publications, and Membership Development Committees)

  • Consider nominating individuals and/or teams for the Learning Technologist of the Year Awards, which promote the intelligent use of learning technology on a national scale by recognising excellent practice and outstanding achievement among both individuals and teams.
  • Through ALT’s professional accreditation scheme you can apply to become a Certified Member of the Association for Learning Technology. You can apply to be part of the University of Edinburgh CMALT Scheme to support you through this application.
