Software Packaging Requests

This page links to the form for official University of Edinburgh software packaging requests.

This is a resource for University of Edinburgh payroll staff and research postgraduate students. If you are a taught postgraduate or undergraduate student, you should make requests for software through your approved School channel.

Unfortunately, Information Services can only consider packaging requests for software to be deployed centrally that will be used by ten or more users.

Packaging requests will typically take a minimum of four weeks to complete.

Requests to add applications to Apps.Ed may take longer, and in some cases may not be possible for technical or contractual reasons. Please submit the request using the form and Information Services will then contact you to discuss in more detail.

NOTE: Please submit one package request form per individual software title.

Incomplete information on the form may result in a delay to the completion of your request.

Key contacts

Please note that an important aspect of submitting a request is the role of the “key contact”:

Key contact role (on University wiki)

The 'key contact' is the individual responsible for a software title and its associated changes during its lifetime and availability at the University.

In completing the form, you will be asked to confirm that you have read and understood the EULA for the software you are requesting - and to provide a valid weblink, where appropriate, to the EULA.

Software sources

Sources for the information required on the form can generally be found in one or more of the following:

  • Software media packaging
  • Supplied printed documentation
  • 'Readme' files on the application media
  • Software vendors’ web site
  • Software vendors’ marketing material

Completing the form

Please fill in all necessary fields, including detailed pre-installation, installation, post-installation and testing instructions.

Ensure any serial number or other license key information is entered into the “License Key” field - and nowhere else on the form.
