Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology

Working environment and culture

The Wellcome centre for Cell Biology provides a state of the state of the art research environment with an inclusive, supportive and highly collaborative culture.

Our environment

Is that of a cutting-edge research institute embedded within a globally influential University. The Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology benefits from access to a thriving student population and enjoys strong interdisciplinary links and collaborations with other University departments including engineering, physics, informatics, medicine and chemistry.

Our culture

Is inclusive, supportive and highly collaborative. Our researcher-led biennial retreat is a particular highlight and alternates with the biennial International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) meeting.

A monthly TGIF hosted by individual laboratories provides an opportunity for social interactions (when COVID rules allow). Our focus groups on Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion, Scientific Communication and the Postdoc Society all provide opportunities to get involved in initiatives to improve our culture.

We enjoy a thriving graduate student community who come from a variety of PhD and MSc programmes, including the affiliated Wellcome integrated Cell Mechanisms (iCM) PhD programme. An established mentoring programme provides careers support at all levels.
