Pre-requisites

Visiting students are advised that the level of chemistry in this course is at the second year university academic level and has a pre-requisite of 40 credits in first year chemistry for UoE students. This course is suitable for students who have completed at least 1 year of undergraduate chemistry.

Course Summary

Semester 2 lecture courses, tutorials, labs and workshops from the Chemistry 2 course, available to visiting students only. The course includes three weeks of physical chemistry and six weeks of organic chemistry laboratory sessions.

Course Description

This course comprises the Semester 2 material, including laboratory and course work, of the Chemistry 2 course. The course consists of the following lecture courses: Chemical Thermodynamics; Molecular Spectroscopy; Main Group Chemistry; Transition Metal Organometallic Chemistry 2; Organometallics and Synthesis; Intro to Physical Organic Chemistry; Organometallic Chemistry in Synthesis.The course includes three weeks of physical chemistry and six weeks of organic chemistry laboratory sessions.

Written Exam 60%, Coursework 40%, Practical Exam 0%

Additional Assessment Information

Semester 2 material is examined with a 3 hour paper in May diet.The coursework material is determined from the performance in the Physical and Organic teaching laboratories.
