Pre-requisites

Ukrainian Language Stage 2 is suitable for students who have completed Ukrainian Language Stage 1 or the equivalent of the A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Entry is subject to a language test by the relevant subject area on arrival and at the discretion of the Course Organiser.

Ukrainian Language Stage 2 offers you a unique opportunity to continue learning one of the main Slavic languages spoken in Europe. You will further develop strategies to learn languages and increase your confidence in holding a simple everyday conversation.

Course Description

Upon completion of the course, students who have fully engaged with all the learning activities will achieve the equivalent of the first half of the A2 level of the CEFR (https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages/table-1-cefr-3.3-common-reference-levels-global-scale) and will have developed their confidence in engaging in basic everyday interactions. Students will develop these elementary linguistic skills through a variety of listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. The course focuses on language that is required for communicating in real everyday situations. The course will include autonomous learning activities, which enable students to practice and consolidate their skills. As they progress through the course, students will learn how to: - Talk about clothes and fashion - Talk about one's profession and workplace - Express preferences and give reasons for these- Organise a trip, plan a holiday- Talk about regional food, drinks and festivals- Discuss the use of different media in everyday life(Content list is indicative)Students will learn more about the cultures associated with the language and its speakers. Student Learning Experience Students will explore the use of the language in a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment. Students will experience the target language in a productive way, carefully designed to grow familiarity and confidence. We follow an action-oriented communicative approach. The lessons include whole-class activities and pair or small-group work, role-play, responding to short texts, listening to dialogues, and watching video clips. Grammar is introduced in context. Pronunciation is practised regularly. Students will develop strategies and skills for language learning reflecting on what works best for them. Learning is assessed formally throughout the course with the teacher providing regular feedback to help students progress and plan their learning.
