Course Summary
A course for beginners with no previous knowledge of Japanese, designed to introduce the Japanese language and culture. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Japanese language. All students take all elements of assessment including the examination. This course runs both in semester 1 and semester 2. On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Foundation Japanese Language 2 in Semester 2 (20 credits), which follows on from Foundation Japanese Language 1.
Course Description
The following list is a description of the contents of the course. Along with each topic and function, relevant vocabulary, grammatical and textual structures, and culture notes will be introduced. -How to read and type Japanese scripts: hiragana and katakana -Introducing yourself and others -Nationalities and occupations -Talking about a nearby object and its owner -Dates, times and numbers -Prices, characteristics of items and shopping -Talking about where you will go, when, how, and with whom -Talking about numbers of things or people that exist in a particular place

Additional Restrictions
Auditing (Class Only) is not allowed. Students MUST NOT also be taking (Japanese Language Beginner (ASST08059), Japanese Language Post Beginner (ASST08058), Japanese Language Pre-Intermediate (ASST08057), Japanese Language Lower Intermediate (ASST08060), Japanese Language Mid-Intermediate (ASST08069), Japanese Language Upper Intermediate (ASST08068)) or Foundation Japanese Language 2 (ASST07016).
