Course Summary
This course will provide an interdisciplinary survey of the culture and society of the Portuguese-speaking world. Students will be introduced to the 7 nations whose official language is Portuguese, although specific focus will be placed on Portugal, Brazil, and Portuguese-speaking Africa (especially Angola and Mozambique). The diversity of cultural expression across three continents will be explored through the study of three literary texts in their historical context, as well as through reference to other forms of articulation, such as film, music and art.
