Course Description

Catalan Language 2 is the follow-up to Catalan Language for Beginners. Students who have successfully completed Catalan Language for Beginners or have an equivalent knowledge to A1+ Catalan from the CEFR will be ideally suited for this course. At the end of this course, students should reach approximately level A2/1+ on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Catalan Language 2 is taught through the medium of Catalan and follows a flipped classroom approach, which empowers students to be in control of their own learning process. Prior to each contact session, students engage with different materials and complete e-learning activities, so that contact hours can focus on the practical application of Catalan. Most e-learning activities will aim to develop students intercomprehension skills, which encourages students to reflect and to draw from the knowledge of languages they already know, including their own. In this way, they develop their metalanguage and metacognition whilst they improve their Catalan. The course uses authentic Catalan sources such as videos on Catalan traditions or places of interest in Catalonia, infographics on famous historical figures, paintings of famous artists, newspaper articles and clips from TV, which allow students to engage with different aspects of Catalan culture and society while learning new vocabulary and being exposed to different aspects of grammar.
