Kit Launch kicks off the Intramural season

As the Intramural Sport season kicks off, Edinburgh University Sports Union has funded new sports kit for a number of new and existing intramural teams, connected to international societies.

An international focus

Participating in sport and being active is a great way to improve the experience of students whist they study. Edinburgh University Sports Union has recently secured funding to support more international students, an under-represented group within sports clubs at Edinburgh, to get involved with sport and physical activity.

Part of this funding has been used to purchase new sports kits for a number of new and existing intramural teams, connected to international societies, with the aim of making members of these teams feel more included in the wider sporting community and improve their overall student experience whilst at Edinburgh.

Kit launch

The societies worked with University of Edinburgh Sports' kit partner Playerlayer to design the kit, which incorporates the team colours alongside the University crest and University tartan trim. The teams also took part in a photoshoot at Old College to celebrate the launch of the new kit.

Intramural sport

Intramural sport provides a vital platform to allow increasing the capacity of sport at Edinburgh and provides opportunities for more recreational participation. Many intramural teams are formed through shared experiences of residences, academia or societies.

There are currently 7 sports involved in intramural activity through the year: football (11s and 5s), rugby, netball, basketball, hockey, squash and table tennis. These include regular weekly activity alongside one-off tournaments, with a number of mixed-gender offerings. Accumulatively there are 23 leagues, 157 teams and approximately 1600 participants.

Funding opportunities

International societies can apply for funding to support entry into intramural competitions by contacting Neil Rankin, Edinburgh University Sports Union, Volunteering & Participation Sports Co-ordinator.
