Historic win for Edinburgh University Men’s Hockey

The Edinburgh University Men’s Hockey 1st team made history yesterday by securing a place in next seasons British University and College Sport (BUCS) Men’s Premier National League.

Their win in the playoff versus Oxford Brookes mean they will be the first Scottish University team to play in the top tier of BUCS men’s hockey since its inception.

The team who recently won the BUCS Vase, made the most of the home crowd at Peffermill and played magnificently. Goals from Iain McFadden, Declan Bradley, Costas Stylianou and Captain Robbie Croll secured a 4-1 win over an impressive Oxford Brookes team.

Head of Men’s Performance Hockey at the University, and Scottish International, Hamish Imrie said "To become the first Scottish university men's team to play in the same league as the elite of British university hockey is a great achievement."

The promotion means The University of Edinburgh becomes one of only eight Universities in the UK with both their men’s and women’s teams playing in their respective BUCS Premier National Leagues.
