Undergraduate study
We aim to offer a vibrant student experience across a wide range of academic disciplines.
We offer both single and joint honours degree programmes from across all our five subject areas and beyond. Our subject areas are:
- Celtic and Scottish Studies
- English Literature
- Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies
- Asian Studies
- European Languages and Cultures
We are home to around 200 academic staff as well as specialist foreign language assistants.
League rankings
In recent surveys, including the Times Good University Guide 2010 and Complete University Guide, the University of Edinburgh has received very favourable rankings for teaching and research across all our subject areas.
Our degree programmes
Our degrees take four years, with the majority offering the option in the first year to study an outside subject. This adds an extra dimension to your studies and provides excellent breadth as well as depth. Your choice of outside subject can be taken from either within or outside of our School.
If you are studying a language, all the languages we offer can be started from scratch.
We offer a range of opportunities for studying abroad as an integral part of your studies.
