Teaching Fellow in Chinese

Background

Esther Tyldesley has a BA in Chinese Studies from Cambridge and an MA in Applied Translation Studies (Chinese) from Leeds. She spent four years in Guizhou Province, where she worked at a rural teachers' college for Voluntary Service Overseas, and she still has strong links with that part of China.

Before coming to Edinburgh Esther worked as a translator, and her work includes "The Good Women of China" by Xinran. She works in both Asian Studies and Translation Studies, and has been teaching Chinese language and Chinese-English translation at Edinburgh University since 2004.

Research summary

Esther's research interests include translation to and from Chinese, contemporary Chinese literature, the teaching of Chinese language and southwest China.

My office hours are 2-3pm on Wednesday during term time.

For students on their Year Abroad, my online office hours are 10-11am on Thursday (UK time) during term time.
