University launches Widening Participation Strategy 2030

The University launched its updated Widening Participation Strategy and latest impact report today (Tuesday 16 January) at an event for students, staff and key partners at Pollock Halls.

The strategy sets out the University's continued commitment to ensuring that students who face barriers to university, including those who have been in care, refugees or people from lower income backgrounds, are supported to study and thrive while studying here.

It sets out plans to ensure that the University works in partnership with students to enable them to succeed throughout their entire journey, from deciding to apply, arriving, studying and assessment to graduation and then beyond.

Poverty and inequality can have a devastating impact on people’s lives, and our University aims to minimise this through the transformative potential of higher education. We’ve worked closely with students to understand their individual experiences and this insight sits at the heart of our new strategy. We want everyone considering or already studying with us to know that everyone is an important part of our community and will be given every opportunity to thrive here.
