Be a peer support volunteer – sign up today

Peer support projects across the University are recruiting student volunteers for next semester.

Peer support volunteer

Getting involved in peer support is a chance to shape the learning experience of others by drawing on your own experiences, whilst meeting new people, gaining valuable skills and having fun!

It is a great way to help new students in their transition to university, and to contribute in a meaningful way to your academic community.

Peer support projects vary depending on what School you are in, and there are different ways to get involved. Peer-assisted learning, academic families, buddying and mentoring are some of the projects underway.

What’s in it for me?

If you enjoy helping others, volunteering can be incredibly rewarding in itself, but it’s also a great way of demonstrating that you are a rounded person and a team player, as well as showcasing your skills and values to potential employers. If this isn’t enough, you’ll also benefit from a comprehensive reward and recognition package from EUSA Peer Support. This means you can:

  • Participate in the Edinburgh Award for Peer Support
  • Develop your transferable skills, including: leadership, time management, organisation, problem-solving, public speaking and presenting
  • Meet other volunteers and staff from across the University, and take part in internal and national networking events and conferences
  • Apply to our exclusive Leadership Development course
  • Get a certificate of recognition as evidence of your contribution
  • Make a valuable addition to your CV
  • Receive a non-academic reference from your key staff contact
  • Be nominated for the prestigious EUSA Impact Awards, as well as the EUSA Teaching Awards
  • Progression within your scheme: get project development experience, sit on your project’s committee, mentor new volunteers

For more information, see the Peer Support Reward and Recognition Strategy:

How can I get involved?

Many of the projects that are recruiting at the moment have all the details of their positions listed on the Peer Support website:

Can’t see your School? Keep an eye out for emails and posters about projects in your School, or contact your School’s Student Support Team or main office.

If you can’t find the role you want, get in touch with the project organiser directly, and they will be able to give you further information. If you’re not sure who to get in touch with in your School, contact the central Peer Support Team at EUSA:
