Go abroad this summer – funding available

Do you have itchy feet? Would you like to do something interesting abroad this summer, but not sure whether you can fund it?

There are currently two exciting opportunities to get financial assistance to travel abroad this summer - The Principal’s Go Abroad Fund and the Universitas 21 event fund.

The Principal’s Go Abroad Fund

The Principal’s Go Abroad Fund provides bursaries to go towards short-term trips abroad that take place before 1 September 2015. Undergraduate and postgraduate students are invited to apply by 5pm on 27 March 2015.

The fund is available for students who wish to go abroad for an experience that has an educational component to it, as well as a cultural one. For example it could be a:

• Work experience placement
• Conference or symposium
• Cultural exchange for your society to collaborate and learn from your international peers

If your application is successful you could receive a bursary of either £350 or £700.

Universitas 21 event funding

Funding is available for undergraduate students who would like to attend a Universitas 21 event in 2015.

These opportunities are available through our membership of Universitas 21 (U21), an international network of 25 research-intensive universities located throughout the world.

The U21 universities work together to foster global citizenship and institutional innovation through research-inspired teaching and learning and student mobility.

One event is in Scotland and the rest require international travel. You could receive up to £1,500 to attend an event, dependant on travel, accommodation and any other associated costs.

The five events are:

• U21 Summer School (Glasgow)
• U21 Undergraduate Research Conference (Auckland)
• U21 Social Entrepreneur Corps (Guatemala)
• U21 Student Summit (Santiago)
• Graduate Research Conference (Shanghai)
