ECA spells success at Fashion Week

Edinburgh College of Art fashion students are celebrating big successes at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week.

Students were awarded numerous accolades - including best womenswear collection - at one of the fashion world’s biggest events, recognising emerging talent.

Career-launching win

Melissa Villevieille won the Womenswear Collection of the Year at the glittering ceremony in London. She was also bestowed the Catwalk Textiles Award and the David Band Textiles Prize.

Her heavily embellished collection uses lines and stripes to express movement and energy.

Eleanor Paulin was also nominated as the runner up for the Karen Millen Best Portfolio of the Year 2015.

Three students were also selected to be part of the Graduate Fashion Week Gala Show, which showcases only 25 of the UK’s top graduating collections.

Graduate Fashion Week

Graduate Fashion Week is the world’s leading event for fashion students and has launched the careers of Stella McCartney, Julien Macdonald and Christopher Bailey. Showcasing the work of over 1,000 graduates from some of the most influential UK and international universities, Graduate Fashion Week is the biggest platform for upcoming creative design talent. Attracting over 20,000 guests each June, the event features 22 catwalk shows, a large exhibition from over 40 universities and an acclaimed Gala Award Show.

Top in UK for fashion

Fashion at ECA was recently ranked top in the UK in the Guardian University league table 2016. It is the only department in Scotland to show on the catwalk at the annual Graduate Fashion Week.
