David Cottrell (1947-2009)

Vincent Molony remembers David Frederick Cottrell, Senior Lecturer at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.

On 15 June 2009, while on his way to complete a diet of professional examinations, David Cottrell suffered a fatal heart attack.

He will be dearly missed by colleagues and students at Edinburgh and other veterinary schools, particularly Liverpool University Veterinary School (1970).

Dedicated and skilled

A proud member of the veterinary profession, David was a dedicated teacher and scientist.

He gave his working life to his students and was always willing to engage with colleagues who had a lesser breadth of experience.

A softly spoken Devonian, from a farming background, David was a talented applied physiologist/anatomist.

Using his specialised skills as a neurophysiologist and his wide knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of domestic animals he made significant scientific contributions.

Devoted family man

David was devoted to his large family and committed to his local community in Humbie.

He leaves his wife Frances and their young daughter Sarah.
