Honorary Professor: Helena Forsås-Scott

Helena Forsås-Scott has been made an Honorary Professor in the College of Humanities & Social Science.

Professor Forsås-Scott is a leading researcher, author and editor in the field of Swedish women’s writing.

She has a first degree from the University of Göteborg, Sweden, a PhD from the University of Aberdeen, and a teaching qualification from Aberdeen College of Education.

Before becoming a lecturer in Swedish at University College London (UCL) in 1994, she taught at the University of Göteborg, the University of Aberdeen and the Open University, and for the Workers’ Educational Association.

She retired from UCL in 2010 as Professor of Swedish and Gender Studies; she is now an Honorary Research Associate at UCL.

Professor Forsås-Scott's research focuses on gender and constructions of gender, chiefly in Swedish 20th-century texts by women writers.

Her books include "Swedish Women's Writing 1850-1995" (1997) and "Re-Writing the Script: Gender and Community in Elin Wägner" (2009; 2nd ed. 2014). She is currently working on a study of the novelist Kerstin Ekman.

She is a Director of Norvik Press, London, and coordinator of a series of new English translations of fiction by the Swedish Nobel Laureate Selma Lagerlöf.

In December 2014, the Swedish Academy presented Professor Forsås-Scott with a prestigious Award from the Academy's Own Funds.
